FAQ

Charlottesville Chapter of the Virginia Production Alliance FAQs

What is CVPA?

We are the Charlottesville chapter of the Virginia Production Alliance (VPA). CPVA’s goal is to actively promote film production in Charlottesville and throughout the central-southwest region of Virginia as well as fulfill the greater VPA mission…to unite film, video, audio & new media professionals in Virginia.

VPA members are producers, directors, cinematographers, actors, writers, production designers, sound designers, editors, and all other crew members and craftspeople that work in visual & auditory media.

The Charlottesville chapter is the newest chapter of VPA, and we hope you will look at all the exciting events we are planning. Please give us your ideas and feedback. We want to hear from you!

Who can join VPA?

YOU can! Anyone interested enough to read this far is good enough for us. From actors to crew, from post production to screenwriting, and from film, video, and audio to new media, everyone with an interest in the creation of moving images are invited to be a part of VPA.

Can I join both VPA and CVPA?

When you join VPA, you are automatically considered a member of the VPA chapter closest to where you reside (yes, we look at the address you provide to us). Therefore, if you are based in the Charlottesville area and/or the central-southwest region of Virginia you are considered a CVPA member.

And, no matter what chapter you are a member of, all members of VPA are welcome at all events, regardless of chapter.

That means by joining VPA, no matter what your level of membership (Individual, Student or Corporate), you have access to the great stuff going on in all of the chapters, as well as at the Richmond headquarters. What could be better than that?

Why is it important that I become a member of VPA?

By becoming a member, you help give our creative community a powerful voice. There are close to 4,000 members of our industry in Virginia. But because we work independently, without big buildings or other visible presence, the needs of our industry are easily ignored.

But YOU can stop that from happening.

By joining the VPA, you become a member of an organization dedicated to increasing film production in Virginia. Joining VPA shows that you are more than just smart and responsible. You are proactive. Feel free to gloat after you join.

What’s in it for Me?

Everything! Access to a directory of like-minded individuals who want to make things happen in film, networking opportunities, notices of upcoming events, screenings, parties, lists of actors, directors and filmmakers, and opportunities to get involved.

How can I or my business be listed in the CVPA Directory?

Subject to approval, listing in the CVPA Directory is free and open to everyone. We encourage you to offer a discount to VPA members, but it is not required. However, it would create really good karma.

Can I donate directly to CVPA?

Just by clicking on this link shows you are very cool. And extremely smart. So smart that you will be able to follow this:

CVPA is a local chapter of VPA, and all money must be donated to VPA. It is possible to attach a note on a VPA donation requesting that your money be directed to CVPA.

All donations are very much appreciated. Please know that the Virginia Production Alliance is a non-profit 501 (c) 6 corporation.

How much do the events cost?

Most events require only a nominal fee for members. We are so nice that we even let non-members attend, but we need to charge them more.

Each chapter sets the fees for their own events, and this information is available in the event listing.

I love politics. Can I get politically active in CVPA?

Feel free to rock it. In order to increase growth in Virginia, our industry needs to get support from political initiatives and legislation. VPA headquarters and the Hampton Roads chapter are actively involved in the political process, and supporting legislation that will provide incentives to those making films and hiring crew in Virginia. CVPA is looking for someone to lead this effort for our chapter, so please contact us if politics are your passion.
