Va Film Fest CALL FOR ENTRIES

no comments | Friday, July 23rd, 2010
While in Los Angeles, I attended the LA Film Festival a handful of years. During that time, I hit a couple of Sundance/Slamdance Fests as well. ‘Tis true, June in LA is easier than January in Park City, but the mist of inspiration infuses the air regardless of season. I would LOVE to be in LA right now, immersed in the experience that is the LAFF, if I didn’t have matters here. I’d be blogging away I assure you. I love the panel discussions, the Q&A’s and feeling a part of ...

Happy Mother’s Day from the CVPA

The CVPA is a collective. Many involved are mothers bringing their “extra” energy to the group. As for me, I have warrior princesses of the canine and feline variety…my starter kits if you will. Most years I’m in denial about Mother’s Day, because I miss my mom, but I worked a brunch today so there was no getting around it. After work, I took “The Griz” for a walk in our ‘hood at sunset. God bless Grizzly, but it certainly hasn’t always been bliss. She’s an absolute love with people, but ...

Join us Monday Night, July 5th for our next event. FREE for CVPA members and $10 for non-members payable at the door. Thanks in advance to The Bridge for hosting this event. We’ll screen Robert Rodriguez’s first short, Bedhead, followed by Billy Bob Thornton’s Some Folks Call It A Sling Blade. Afterwards, there will be a moderated group discussion on the merits of each. Both these gentlemen blazed trails with their features, but were given audience due to the success of their earlier shorts. Which approach do you prefer? Would you make ...

A Monday a Month

I would say I’m remiss at not writing more frequently, but I, like many creatives, ride the seesaw of inspiration vs. discipline. As they say at Writers Boot Camp, where I spent 2 years, “the secret to writing is writing”. I knowwww, but I get the “I don’t wannas” sometimes. There’s also that shadow of perfection that I have to remind myself to dodge. A sense of community and purpose is key. I’m so grateful to be a part of the CVPA, as it’s undeniably a team effort. In groups there ...

Une Première de Première

Monday night, March 1st, the Charlottesville Chapter of the Virginia Production Alliance unveiled itself at Random Row Books on W. Main St. The event was a huge success with an enviable turn out. I arrived “fashionably late” because I couldn’t decide if my hair was fashionable or just a mess. Oh, the pressures of being an actress and photogenic to boot! From the moment I walked through the door, the party emanated a warm, welcoming vibe, a wonderful reflection of the hostess, Chair Erica ...
